Every year we say we're going to do it. Why wouldn't we? It's the one weekend a year that Dads know that they get a day to themselves. It's pretty simple..... we text a handful of our dad friends, get little to no pushback, everybody shows up and is in a great mood to boot. We play a round with random bets, have a blast, give hugs, and with the best of intentions we promise to get the families together more. Regardless of the outcome, we all walk back to our cars saying the same thing.... Why wouldn't we make this official? 

So this year rolls around, and once again, the conversation starts about the tournament. We promised each other that we'd either figure it out or quit talking about it. We contacted The Hermitage Golf course, which was an easy decision, and made an appointment to discuss our thoughts. Two days before our meeting, the unbelievable happened. A mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, taking the lives of killing 3 adults and 3 children. As fathers, we immediately knew our roles, and committed to do something. 

Both being former board members of Fannie Battle Day Home for Children in East Nashville, it was an obvious choice for our first call. But, knowing that over 80% of all the school's operating expenses are paid through donations, we were curious what, if any, new plans were being made around the school's security. We were excited to learn that quotes were already in process ranging from upgraded camera and alarm systems, panic buttons, and armed intruder training. This alone will not guarantee to stop another horrific event from happening, but we have to start somewhere, and we have to start now. The budget for this phase-1 security upgrade is $25,000. 

Nobody should have to lose another child in a senseless act of violence.
